ESG Approach

Sauder Global' ("SGI") mission is to excel in preserving and growing our clients' capital over extended periods. We conduct our own investment research, emphasizing long-term capital preservation and prudent risk management in relation to returns. Our investment process prioritizes loss avoidance as the key to achieving superior long-term investment returns.

We believe that incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into our investment process enhances our ability to manage risk and achieve our long-term objectives. We consider ESG factors as important elements in both equity and fixed income investments.

Our investment approach explicitly includes the evaluation of ESG criteria and is guided by core principles applied across all our investment portfolios. These principles have withstood the test of time, fostering lasting client relationships and distinguishing us from our peers.

Our investment principles:

  • Emphasize capital preservation
  • Conduct thorough, bottom-up, fundamental research
  • Adopt a long-term perspective
  • Exercise discipline and patience
  • Employ a value-based approach

The assessment of ESG factors during our investment research process enables us to effectively evaluate the long-term sustainability and resilience of our chosen companies and credits:

  • Environmental: Entities using resources judiciously and being mindful of climate risks can drive profitability and reduce unforeseen liabilities that may erode enterprise value.
  • Social: Maintaining high standards of conduct internally and externally can lead to strong organizational cultures, better long-term outcomes for stakeholders, and limited adverse regulatory actions.
  • Governance: Analyzing management quality, ownership structures, and operational frameworks is crucial for long-term sustainability. We believe well-managed businesses, where teams act like owners, are more likely to create value for shareholders, protect creditors' rights, and maintain access to credit markets. These are essential qualities for the businesses we choose to invest in for our clients.

ESG Integration: Embedded in our bottom-up approach

  • Our team of around 50 equity and fixed income investment professionals incorporate key ESG criteria into our investment analysis and decision-making process.
  • Each investment team employs a tailored approach, aligning with our overall investment philosophy while addressing specific strategies.
  • We diligently study factors that may impact capital, and unresolved ESG risks may influence our decisions regarding investments.
  • Through thorough bottom-up research, engagement with management and issuers, and continual monitoring of the regulatory and governmental environment, we continually refine our understanding of how well ESG factors are managed.

SGI provides investment management services globally, with ESG criteria deeply ingrained in our investment process. We offer customizable investment solutions tailored to meet individual client ESG goals and screening preferences.
